WELCOME TO THE WORLD, SANDY
Meet the 10th Marsh Tacky foal to be born in the history of our program, it’s a filly! This is Barrier Island Carolina Girl’s third foal in the history of her broodmare career. We think she has saved the best for last. We have decided to retire her from breeding after this baby due to her age of 22 years old this year. This is a big filly that looks like she will have her mother’s head and larger size, with her Daddy’s roan, star and sweet personality. She will be available for sale starting in the fall so check with us if you have interest, we will be happy to provide you with more information.
CHECK OUT OUR MERCH
Summer is here and the latest round of improvements to the She Shed are a wrap. It’s hard to stay cool this time of year but thankfully we have lots of new seating in the shade, fans, cold AC, a fridge to keep drinks cold, a new used bigger smart TV and free wifi for our volunteers, students, patrons and day tourists to enjoy. Stop by, learn more about our program offerings, pick up some free island real estate info and check out our merch! You can shop for shirts, hats, stickers, magnets, postcards, beverages and more. Our hours are Wednesday through Saturday from 11:30-4:30, otherwise by appointment. Also, be sure to browse our new shop online!
FAREWELL, MATEO
Our first born colt has just graduated to his great destiny, to be owned, loved and spoiled by my Goddaughter in Charleston. We knew they were a match made in heaven a long time ago, the timing was finally right to make it happen. These two have been bonded since Mateo hit the ground in 2017 and we are so proud of how far both of them have come, we are cheering for you as you continue to make progress together, we can’t wait to visit soon!
FAREWELL, FILLIES
Mira and Rosa are traveling to their forever homes, on a beautiful farm near Clemson today. Congratulations to Cindy Malphrus whose family has a rich history with the breed. She initially inquired with us about purchasing one, but after careful consideration, why buy just one when you can buy two? We are especially flattered that we were recommended to Cindy by the owner of Stella (Estelita Scurry), the very first Marsh Tacky foal born in our program in 2017. We are excited to watch you grow!
SOUTHERN BREEZE
Breeze, owned by Wylie Bell, just participated in an exchange program of sorts with us, where she was brought to Daufuskie to be bred to our stud Louie, and instead of a stud fee we were able to use her in our trail riding and lesson program. This smart mare has many accolades and accomplishments. Wylie and Breeze have won the Marsh Tacky Beach Races on multiple occasions and have participated in tons of trail rides, shows, clinics and hunts. The lesson kids adored her very much. Breeze is expecting to foal October 2024, we’re excited! If you think you have a mare that might be a good fit for a similar breeding exchange, contact us directly.

WELCOME TO THE WORLD, ROSA
It’s a filly! Last but not least, for the time in our program’s history that we have had multiple foals in one year, meet Rosa, the sixth Marsh Tacky foal to be born on Daufuskie in decades. Her dam is Barrier Island Carolina Girl (Tacky Blue x Star) who has been a huge part of our trail ride program since she joined us in 2018. This is her first foal with us, and the second foal in her entire broodmare career. We are in love with watching how all three foals are bonding, interacting and socializing with each other!
WELCOME TO THE WORLD, MIRA
It’s a filly! Born on November 14, 2023, this is the 5th Marsh Tacky foal to be born on Daufuskie in decades, the second foal to be born at our permanent location at Heritage Hall, and the first full sibling to Mateo (Lowther’s Lucero (Hershey) x Carolina Moon (Cowboy)). The name Mira, translated from Spanish, means to look, look alike or aspire to. Her perfect little crescent shaped star on her forehead just like her mom’s inspired us, and we’re sure she will take after her in brains and athleticism, too.
WELCOME TO THE WORLD, FUEGO
It’s a colt! Born August 23, 2023, here is the 4th Marsh Tacky foal to be born on Daufuskie in decades, the 2nd to be born on our permanent location at Heritage Hall, and the 2nd foal out of Flaca x Louie, who most recently gave us Clover last year. He’s a red head and has displayed the chillest, most laid back personality than perhaps any of the babies we have had to date. The lesson kids adore him and so do we!
FAREWELL, CLOVER
A big part of our breeding program includes preparing our foals for success in being offered for sale to a great home. Clover is sold! She will be leaving Daufuskie in a few days and going to Hawkins Heritage Farm in St. Geroge, SC where she will be joining their growing Marsh Tacky herd, loved upon by two young girls, learning the ropes in cow and ranch work and eventually growing into a role as a broodmare. We look forward to keeping up with y’alls accomplishments and adventures!
