It’s a filly! Last but not least, for the time in our program’s history that we have had multiple foals in one year, meet Rosa, the sixth Marsh Tacky foal to be born on Daufuskie in decades. Her dam is Barrier Island Carolina Girl (Tacky Blue x Star) who has been a huge part of our trail ride program since she joined us in 2018. This is her first foal with us, and the second foal in her entire broodmare career. We are in love with watching how all three foals are bonding, interacting and socializing with each other!

It’s a filly! Born on November 14, 2023, this is the 5th Marsh Tacky foal to be born on Daufuskie in decades, the second foal to be born at our permanent location at Heritage Hall, and the first full sibling to Mateo (Lowther’s Lucero (Hershey) x Carolina Moon (Cowboy)). The name Mira, translated from Spanish, means to look, look alike or aspire to. Her perfect little crescent shaped star on her forehead just like her mom’s inspired us, and we’re sure she will take after her in brains and athleticism, too.

CLOVER FILLY 3RD FOAL BORN ON DAUFUSKIE MARSH TACKY SOCIETY

It’s a filly! She was born on St. Patrick’s Day evening. We were present for almost the entire labor and birth. What a miraculous experience. The third foal to be born on Daufuskie in around 50 years, this is the first time we have witnessed the birth. We were able to imprint this new life in that precious window of time when she will associate us as her family. We had our hands on her at her first breath, helped her get her spindly legs under her and start nursing. Flaca (Carolina Moon x DP) and Clover (sired by Lowther’s Lucero) are bonded, healthy and happy, she is a spitting image of her Daddy! This is the first foal to be born on our new location at Heritage Hall.

ESELITA AND ABLE LEAVE DAUFUSKIE MARSH TACKY SOCIETY

Farewell to our very first foal, Estelita Scurry as she embarks upon a new chapter her journey today. She, along with Southern Legends Tuff, are leaving the island to their new forever homes so we are feeling proud and hopeful for them. Estelita will be living near Clemson, SC and Southern Legend will be living in middle GA. Thanks Hawkins Heritage Farm for your help with hauling and match making. We are looking forward to following these two as they grow with their new owners.

Give a warm welcome to Mateo, the second Marsh Tacky foal to be born on Daufuskie Island in decades. He arrived six days after his half sister Estelita, yet he has surpassed her in size since day one! His dam is Carolina Moon and he is the second offspring for both “Mama” and his sire, Lowther’s Lucero. He has a brave and curious personality and already has proven to love running, bucking and snacking on Spanish moss. As his name implies, he is a product of the horses being evacuated together for Hurricane Matthew and he is truly a gift from God.

The first foal to be born on Daufuskie in some say four decades is here! A blonde filly with a perfect dorsal stripe, white socks on all four feet (just like her Daddy) and a tiny star on her forehead was born on Friday morning, November 10, 2017. The sire is Lowther’s Lucero and the dam is Reina, who has proven to be a natural for her very first time as a mother. It’s apparent now that the first foal to be born on Daufuskie in decades was conceived when our herd was displaced together at Melrose for Hurricane Matthew – our filly is a living, silver lining to the storm!
