It’s a filly! Born on November 14, 2023, this is the 5th Marsh Tacky foal to be born on Daufuskie in decades, the second foal to be born at our permanent location at Heritage Hall, and the first full sibling to Mateo (Lowther’s Lucero (Hershey) x Carolina Moon (Cowboy)). The name Mira, translated from Spanish, means to look, look alike or aspire to. Her perfect little crescent shaped star on her forehead just like her mom’s inspired us, and we’re sure she will take after her in brains and athleticism, too.
LOWCOUNTRY HUNT OPENING MEET
I don’t think I’ve ever had so much fun on a hunt in my entire life. This was Mama’s (Carolina Moon) first hunt and she was amazing. We rode in 2nd flight. We galloped, crossed swelled creeks, dodged hounds and jumped logs. Sadly this was the last hunt with Airy Hall as a fixture but I am so grateful to have done it up with my heart horse, memories I will cherish forever!
MARSH TACKYS AT POLO FOR CHARITY
Here we are enjoying a little hack around the grounds at Rose Hill after an exciting day with Pegasus Riding Academy participating as a charity beneficiary for the 2021 Polo for Heroes event. DMTS’s three Marsh Tacky mares Mama, Carolina and Roxie all participated in the Parade of Breeds during the opening ceremonies, then they shined in Pegasus’ Special Olympics riding drill demonstration, lastly no one came unglued when the skydiver carrying our colors landed in the polo field from just overhead! Great day!
It’s a Colt!
Give a warm welcome to Mateo, the second Marsh Tacky foal to be born on Daufuskie Island in decades. He arrived six days after his half sister Estelita, yet he has surpassed her in size since day one! His dam is Carolina Moon and he is the second offspring for both “Mama” and his sire, Lowther’s Lucero. He has a brave and curious personality and already has proven to love running, bucking and snacking on Spanish moss. As his name implies, he is a product of the horses being evacuated together for Hurricane Matthew and he is truly a gift from God.
