CLOVER FILLY 3RD FOAL BORN ON DAUFUSKIE MARSH TACKY SOCIETY

Welcome to the world, little Clover. She was born on St. Patrick’s Day evening! We were present for almost the entire labor and birth. What a miraculous experience. As our third foal, this is the first time we have witnessed the birth. We were able to imprint this new life in that precious window of time when she will associate us as her family. We had our hands on her at her first breath, helped her get her spindly legs under her and find her mama’s milk. Flaca (Carolina Moon x DP) and Clover (sired by Lowther’s Lucero) are bonded, healthy and happy! This is the first foal to be born at our new location at Selmont Hall.

DAUFUSKIE MARSH TACKY SOCIETY LOUIE AND FLACA BREEDING

We figured during this pandemic lockdown that one of the few things we could do is make more Marsh Tackies. So we introduced Flaca (Caroilna Moon X DP) to Louie (MT-48 x Hershey) and they are getting it on. This is Louie’s third and Flaca’s first. It’s fascinating to watch them interact with each other. We are so excited to see what we get from these two!

DAUFUSKIE ISLAND CHRISTMAS PARADE MARSH TACKY SOCIETY

This was the first year that the Daufuskie Island Christmas Parade was not held from the fire department to the county dock. Since Marshside Mama’s is shut down we reorganized the parade to be in Melrose. We lined up at the old inn and paraded down to the Beach Club where the kiddos sang carols and sat on Santa’s lap. We threw candy to the people on the sidelines and let the horses graze on the lawn while we watched the kids. Flaca and Mandy were rock stars. This was Mandy’s second parade but Flaca’s first.

DAUFUSKIE DEER DRIVE MARSH TACKY SOCIETY

A long standing annual tradition, our deer drive takes place every winter in the Oakridge and Webb Tracts. Generations of grandfathers, fathers and son hunters come over together with shotguns and hounds to cull our deer. If left unmanaged they become over populated and start to display poor genetics and diseases. All of the harvested deer is processed and surplus venison is donated to the community. Our job on horseback is to pull downed deer from the woods where trucks or ATV’s can’t reach. This was Flaca’s first hunt and she did amazing.
