Get up close and personal with our critically endangered SC State Heritage Horse – the Marsh Tacky.

Attendees will learn about what makes these horses special and why they are significant to South Carolina history, heritage and culture. Then, meet a Marsh Tacky. Orally narrated tours, supplemented by mixed media information are 30 minutes long.

You don’t absolutley have to utilize our online booking system in order to book your tour, however it’s an option if that’s what you prefer. Alternatively you can text Erica 843-290-9119, give us a heads up on when you are coming, and pay by cash, card or venmo in person at the time of your tour. Whatever works best for you and your group. Just remember, reservations are not required but highly recommended.

TOUR SCHEDULE:

Wednesdays thru Saturdays on the half-hour or by appointment from 11:30-4:30pm

• Adults – $10.00/each

• Kids (Ages 7-17) $5.00/each

• Kiddos 7 and under are FREE

Tours take place at Heritage Hall (281 Old Haig Point Rd) near Freeport Marina, Melrose Landing and the History Museum.

Walk ups are welcome, however reservations are recommended!

We are a 501c3 charitable organization whose mission is to preserve, protect and promote the Marsh Tacky on Daufuskie. Please be sure to sign our guest book before you leave. We are eligible for more grants based on the volume and demographic variety of folks who come to visit us.

Please park in designated areas.

Note that we do not have public restrooms at our new location yet. We do have a hand washing and sanitizing station.

We have complimentary Wifi.

We will usually have a bonfire going when it’s cold and fans/AC going when it’s hot.

Our tour is ADA accessible and can accommodate folks on golf carts as well as in wheelchairs, walkers or with strollers.

Our tour is sure to delight the horse and/or history lover, however it’s designed to be family friendly and fun for all ages and anyone interested in seeing/learning about all that Daufuskie has to offer.

Chances are good you will be able to see/interact with a Marsh Tacky foal (baby horse) during your tour.

We take cash, card, Venmo and PayPal. Donations and tips are appreciated.

Beverages, snacks, merchandise and memberships available for additional purchase.

We try our best to maintain regular business hours Wednesdays through Saturdays from 11:30-4:30 however we are typically short staffed. So, if there’s anyone in your group who has their heart set on the full guided tour, please text Erica 843-290-9119 to let us know when you’re wanting to come by. Otherwise, walk ups are welcome during our regular hours. Unguided, walk up guests can see the horses from a distance, read about the highlights of the horses and their history on informational signage, as well as sign our guest book, register for our emails, purchase beverages, snacks, swag or leave a donation, all without staff or a volunteer guide being present.

Please kindly note, do not feed horses and/or open or close gates without the presence and supervision of a guide. Also, when you visit please remember you are on private property and under video surveillance and the house on the property is a full time, owner occupied primary residence.

100% of proceeds from this program goes to covering costs for routine horse care (grain, hay, vet, farrier, grooming supplies, etc).
