Lowther’s Lucero, or “Louie,” born in 2015, is our Marsh Tacky stallion standing at stud on behalf of Daufuskie Marsh Tacky Society. As his name implies, he has a bright role. Louie was handpicked by us when he was barely 4 months old from a crop of over 20 babies recently had by a batch of broodmares sired by Hershey on Mr. DP Lowther’s farm in Ridgeland, SC. He has grown to become the father of the first Marsh Tacky foals born on Daufuskie in (locals say) 4-5 decades. He possesses the sought after conformation and characteristics in the breed – smaller size, strong short back, dorsal and zebra striping, thick double mane, striking bay roan color, the dun factor and personality to match. He loves people and has a quiet but curious temperament. He’s been on several road trips as the ambassador of our program and is in a routine under saddle. He is available for a negotiable stud fee to Marsh Tacky owners especially trying to promote genetic diversity and the health of the breed population into the future.
