The Barn at Freeport

The barn at Freeport is the original, primary location of Daufuskie Marsh Tacky Society. Established in 2015 with just one run in shed and some corral panels, this traditional style barn now accommodates up to 6 horses and is a venue for private parties, special events, mounted programming and clinics.

This high traffic location across from Freeport Marina enables us to fulfill important public awareness and educational programming by capturing hundreds of tourists daily who are visiting the island. Possessing diverse demographics, it is rewarding to touch so many people who first look and see horses, then look closer and say, “What on Earth is a Marsh Tacky?” Shedding light upon the breed to an international audience and educating them about why the Marsh Tacky is important to the history, heritage and legacy of South Carolina is an effort we must continue to capitalize upon thanks to this location. Our initial start up and this effort has been made possible in partnership with J&W Corporation.

The history, culture and heritage that the Marsh Tacky represents belongs to all of us and it should be shared by everyone!
