We accept working students and college interns on an ongoing basis. Please contact us for an application.

SUMMARY
Working students (ages 12 to 18) and interns (enrolled in higher education) with Daufuskie Marsh Tacky earn resume building experience and references, verifiable community service hours with a charity organization, and employable life and work skills in a fun, laid back and inclusive environment in exchange for their time completing tasks that are important to the daily operations of our organization. Students ages 12-18 must have written parent/guardian consent.

Ideal candidates will show up on time with a positive attitude. You are trustworthy, reliable, respectful and want to gain experience handling/riding horses with an aim to improve your horsemanship skills. A desire to work hard, learn something new and give back to your community through helping others is a must. Horse experience, communication skills and/or basic computer skills are preferred but we will teach the right person.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
Working students and interns have the opportunity to gain hands-on, practical experience in the following areas:

  • Equine nutrition planning and management for horses in all stages of development from foal to working horse to stallion/broodmare
  • Pasture management
  • Facilities & equipment maintenance
  • Basic record keeping
  • Emergency preparedness
  • Understanding and administering basic equine first aid
  • Horse handling, grooming, training, driving and riding
  • Best practices for equestrian facilities
  • Retail inventory and sales
  • Oral/mixed media presentations
  • Answering phones, customer service, booking appointments, concierge
  • Social media and website management
  • Special events planning
  • Public relations and communications

CONCLUSION
We value the diversity of all of our working students and interns. We will try as best as possible to ensure you receive a learning experience that fits your schedule, aptitudes, interests and career goals by providing a degree of flexibility in offering tasks and jobs that suit you. However, helping with the routine chores associated with caring for our horses will remain at the top of our list for work to be done by our students and interns. If you aren’t ready and willing to roll up your sleeves, make hay nets, muck stalls or scrub a water trough please don’t apply. Our hardest working students and interns are rewarded with more riding instruction and time in the saddle. Thank you for your interest in our working student and internship program!

The culture, history and heritage that the Marsh Tacky represents belongs to all of us and it should be celebrated by everyone!
